An absolutely stunning lunch from @joe leatherwood . 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind.

One of the best examples of champagne I’ve ever had. The moment I saw it in the glass, I was sold. Then I smelled it, and I was in love. Just absolutely mind boggling. I was between Jacques Selosse or older vintage Krug, and eventually felt very confident in my JSelosse guess. Supremely and beautifully oxidized. Sherry, candied ginger, honey drizzled stone fruits with orange marmalade covered scone. Nutty too. I can’t get enough of this style of champagne.

Light gold. Nutty and bready with a bold and tangy acidity. Long and complex.

Just a few bottles from an awesome Open That Bottle Night celebration this past weekend.

Stunner. I enjoy the more oxidative style champagnes and this is fully in that realm. A streak of sherry notes line the middle, surrounded by poached pear, toffee, espresso and baked brioche.

Gorgeous stuff. Tawny golden color. Good secondary characteristics with a hint of marmalade, peaches. Good fizz and lovely mineralogy and length.

A honeyed nose and color with fresh layers of steel and limestone. On the palate vivid and beautifully complete. Really complex with apricots, hazelnut, spice and really long with dazzling acidity. The freshness is a real testament to late disgorgement.

Beautiful and balanced. Some sign of age.

1985 vintage. Medium golden hue. On the nose, some spicy notes and stewed fruits. Deep concentration of aromas workout any obvious oxidation. On the palate, balanced but slightly tired as the stewed dried fruit note comes to the fore. The finish is long but lacks the depth and kick of the 1979. In esteemed company this slightly falls short. On its own it’s a wizz.
