It is highly challenging not to be drawn to the intense golden hue of this brilliant cold vintage Chardonnay. Needing an hour in the decanter to fully evolve, this stunning wine opens with an intense bouquet of roasted pineapple, apricot and Pazazz apple with wild mushroom undertones that all shine brightly in the glass. The soft and downright silky mouthfeel impresses as this gracefully glides across the mid-palate. Bright honeydew melon, pineapple upside down cake, vanilla cream and damp earth tones round out the palate. The combination of weight and tension in the glass is really thrilling. While gorgeous at the eight year mark, this beautiful wine still has a decade or more ahead of it. Drink 2019-2031- 95

Heck of a hosting by @Weston Eidson last night for the City Club wine group. All wines were tasted blind.

This was really fun trying alongside The Judge (once they were revealed). I guessed this was 3-5 year old Cali chardonnay, and guessed it was a Montagu Ritchie. Crazy power to this...it mellowed a touch with time in the glass, but it was large and in charge. Smoked marshmallows, lemon oil, hazelnut and honeyed fruits. Viscous and rich on the palate.

@Benjamin Keator had his hosting at the CC tonight and it was absolutely incredible. What a night of gorgeous wines! All wines are guessed blind.

The third white in an insane flight of Chardonnays. I guessed all were Cali (they were), and guessed they are all 2012 (they were). I actually guessed this was either Kongsgaard or Jarvis Finch Hollow, so half right? Richly gold in the glass (Kongsgaard giveaway). Acidity was fairly high which was surprising. Honeyed fruit and honeycomb. Always unique and always fantastic.

10’ Kongsgaard Chardonnay. Deep gold color. Aromas of white peaches, lemons, citrus blossoms, crushed rocks. Ripe acidity throughout the glass. So good! Perfect drinking window. Pop & pour. With age the oak has integrated nicely. Edit- Almost 2 hours into this ... beautiful 👍. Many great years in front it.

The hallmark, and almost its give away, is its balance of all the complexities that come together to create a stunning wine of richness, precision, harmony and length. There’s so many facets to this wine and they all seem to be working together to weave a whole, uniformed wine. Reminiscent of Batard Montrachet, but with a little more CA sunshine to boot. So powerful but so playful and energetic on the palate.

Ending this morning’s flight with an iconic Napa white. Creamy, and bountiful it sings of California, without losing its pillared acid structure. Squash blossom, cereal grains, ripe yellow apple skin - the liquid embodiment of the golden West Coast sun.

Holy Saint Nick this is in a magnificent place. Candied pear, honeysuckle and brioche engulf you and make you stop and take notice. Really spectacular right now.

Incredible power but balance, has aged beautifully, still very rich and fresh, which is the tension that I always feel makes this wine
