What a wonderful little gem this wine turned out to be. A rather young blau but one that is light and drinkable with opportunity to age and grow in the bottle too. Has a ruby color, looks lighter body from the onset. Lively scents of rose petals and cola, but mostly red berries like currants and cherry. Drinks beautifully with a bright quality and low to medium acidity featuring some pepper but mostly sour cherry. Has a refreshing quality that I like.

Tonight I have opened the 2016 Kobal Bläufrankisch from Slovenia. This would be my first wine from this part of the world.

On the nose there is cherry, blackberry, licorice, caramelized wood and dry soil.

On the palate I am getting sour cherry, blackberry, herbs, spice and dry soil.

This wine is medium to full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + gripping tannins that lead right to a long tart finish. A nice wine for a very young Bläufrankisch. Over time I'm sure it will fill out but I am intrigued by the tartness. We are starting another weekend so please stay safe and enjoy your weekend of wine. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

This wine rocks, so fun. Old rose petals, a little iron, cherry/boysenberry, vanilla cream, silky mouth coating body and nice acid. I really like this, need to have some food next time. Something gamy, maybe liver or duck.

Good fruit but missing the spice I want from a Blau.

A bit bigger and gamey-er than I'd expect.

Deep burgundy color. Heavy cranberry nose. Disappointingly short and uninteresting finish after a tart berry palate. Could use more time.
