Slightly cloudy, purple red with a inge of brown. Cherry aroma, Tart dried cherry, fruit leather, plummy flavors, good acid, some earth on finish. Has aged incredibly well. A treat.

Wow! What a special treat. Knudsen Erath 1987 Pinot Noir. At first, bright fruits still evident of berries. Earth and spice dominated and structure along with acidity was unbelievable. Sat through lunch, and structure and acidity was still there, although fruit was a time bit muted, but it was still AWESOME even after an hour of air.

Like drinking a piece of history, I felt privileged to taste the 1985 and 1983 vintages of Knudsen Erath Pinot Noir with two of the children of Cal Knudsen. Graceful, arching secondary and tertiary notes of sous bois, dried rose petal, wild mushrooms, brown sugar and dried mint. Brickish in the glass, like a faded tapestry, one can detect how it might have been at its zenith. There is, interestingly still moderate acidity lacing together notes of game and iron ore, there's not much fruit to be found at this stage.
