Kistler
Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay
Tired. Oxidized. Kinda interesting but it’s shot.

Nov 30th, 2022Excellent Kistler. Subtle pineapple, Meyer lemon, creamy, delicious. Winemaker skills really show through here. Pristine and elegant.

Jan 4th, 2020A few days late in posting the Wednesday Wine Committee wines. Standard format with 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind.
One of the better Kistlers I’ve had. Green tinged in the glass with gorgeous notes of keylime pie and crust, lemon cream, and honeysuckle. Rich and powerful on the palate...more so than most Kistlers I’ve had. Soft and round profile. Finish has a savory sea salt note. Very nice. I guessed young Kistler Chardonnay.

Got to take advantage of another Wednesday Wine Committee and boy was it worth it. Wow! Killer wines brought by Glenn for his 60th! As always, wines tasted blind. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert wine.
Again, the table pegged this as Kistler. The main discussion was could it be a vertical or a horizontal? Lots of similarities leaned us towards horizontal. My first Hyde vineyard Chardonnay...gorgeous. Out of the 3 Kistler's, I think this benefited most from air time. A lot of lemon cream balanced by bread/toast notes alongside butter. Not citrusy or tropical.

En Magnum, thanks @Geoff Labitzke! Such a treat, incredible.

Nov 23rd, 2016An explosive nose of honeysuckle and peaches, was followed by a compressed and muted expression on the palette. We did detect white flowers, grapefruits, pineapples and a hint of almonds. I detected slight oxidation, but wifey did not.
Falls short of the usual standards we have come to expect from Kistler, but still enjoyable, nonetheless.
Update: 2hrs in and the wine has opened up. Intriguing...
