Kimsey Vineyard
Ballard Canyon Syrah
Medium purple in color with notes of strawberries and pencil lead. Mouthfeel is much lighter than I would expect. The wine is also flat and unexciting. I honestly would have guessed it to be $10 wine. I paid $60. I really hate to give bad ratings to small producers, but this is just not delivering. Both my wife and I rated it last in a blind Syrah tasting with Modus Operandi and DuMol.

Jun 18th, 2022Inky purple in the glass with aromas of blueberry, plum, savory bacon fat, black licorice, and spices. 3% Viognier adds some floral lift. Full bodied and juicy on the palate with nice structure. Made by Matt Dees and barrel aged in French oak which is only 30% new. Although not as powerful as the ‘13, it shows a bit more finesse. 14.5% alcohol. $60.

Oct 8th, 2017Inky purple. Blueberry, cured meat, violets, mint, and black pepper on the nose. Intense, concentrated blue and black fruit on the palate with soft tannins and good length. Another beautiful wine by Matt Dees.
