Taber Riserva Alto Adige - Südtirol Lagrein

I would have guessed this to be a 2009 Sangiovese. I'm wrong. Perhaps embarrassingly. I don't mind though. A teaser it may be but one that is tart and tasty.

A dense and weighty Lagrein with plenty of sleek black fruits and attractive earthy notes. Really hard to but the glass down. Black currants, macerated black cherry, leather, coffee, moss, pepper, black minerals. Palate is dense, supple and brooding with balanced acid and a rather fine and elegant tannin profile.

Unique. Notes of ruby red dried fruit.

Super tart scent with hidden berry notes inside

Usual lovely balance that you get in Lagrein Riserva. Missing out on some of the fruit and presence in the mouth that you get with the Muri Gries

Had the somm pick this wine and he nailed it. Lovely balance and softer taste than the color indicated. I will drink again..if I can find it. : )

I have a weakness for Lagrein Riserva, so I'm biased, but this was luscious. Great fruit, dark plum, nice vegetable notes which showed up the winemaking. Some back notes of toast. Loved it.
