I’m very lucky tonight- a special someone found me this bottle after hearing me wax poetic about the 1999 Kathryn Kennedy estate Cabernet, a true epiphany wine. This is 100% Santa Cruz mountains, but the secondary bottling sourced from small-scale growers in some of the warmer microclimates. It would be unfair to draw comparisons, so I won’t. This is simply a lovely and elegant wine that looks gorgeous after 17 years in the bottle. Bright ruby with no signs of browning. Beautifully resolved and silky on the palate with plenty of acidity. Red berries, menthol, licorice, tobacco, roses and a hint of vanilla. Very genteel and sporting a certain New World polish but retaining a bit of that gravelly, underbrush soil quality. For a second bottling this shows superb finesse, longevity, range and complexity. Wine is a gift- share your love with others.

Big, rich, and lengthy. Nice amount of oak, vanilla, and dust on the mid palate. Balanced quite well. Drinking great by itself, and even better with a prime rib roast!

Wow, this is drinking so well right now! Oak is integrated, fruit is pure (cassis and blackberry) and the balance is just right.
