Rock Garden Syrah
On the nose, beautiful floral red & blue fruits. Black olive, pepper, crushed rocks and a touch of band aid. Lots of flavors for a leaner body Syrah. This is another example of Charles lightly handling his fruit and simply getting out of way of the good fruit. The fruits are a potpourri blue fruits & mixed dark berries. Soft understated delicate spice, dry rock powder, light pepper, purple florals and lean, rich, elegant fruit finish. Photos of; exterior shot of the older original tasting room, Charles library wines and one of his motorcycles.

Jan 26th, 2015Jammy Shiraz with thick baked earth under notes, fine grained tannins. Nice level of evolving complexity and definitely full bodied. Amplified the garlic, mint glazed bbq lamb chops!

Aug 22nd, 2022Soft fruit, some bacon, smoked meat, & herbs. Not very complex. Lovely BBQ wine. Unlike many WA syrah, not an alcoholic fruit bomb. However, terrible QPR for the level of vinous complexity on offer.

Oct 17th, 2021Tasted blind: Dried tobacco, dried cranberry, blackcherry, clove, leather, and tar This turns oxidative with a short glass decant (open in bottle for a few hours). Shows Madeira like charter, think burnt sugar and tar. Baking and anise spice notes on the palate. Medium minus tannin. Still very acidic. Carmel and cherry jubilee leas on a rich and reduced finish, with secondary vanilla and clove flavors hinting a at and oak presence. Blown away by the layers, depth and evolution here. Suspected older Rioja.

Feb 28th, 2021Hate to give it this high score but it was just awesome with our bbq ribs, beans and coke slaw. Vibrantly spicy, earthy, complex, and lingering.
