Irie Paso Robles Zinfandel
Too much sweet oak but otherwise not too oppressive.

Sep 6th, 2016Barnyard funk and red and black fruit jams on the nose. Fruit forward on the palate featuring strawberry jam, charred meat, cranberry sauce, cinnamon, and oak. A bit stemmy, but that’s part the zin cluster charm. High alcohol, moderate plus tannin, and high acid. Excellent match with a bbq dinner.

Apr 16th, 2020Not nearly the syrupy fruit bomb you might expect from a zin. The fruit played second fiddle to a delightful earthy component, all delivered in a super smooth package. I thought it would pair well with a steak, but it ended up being better as a sipping wine after dinner.

Nov 7th, 2018A big nose of raspberry, strawberry, and tart cherry with barnyard funk lingering in the background. Fruit forward on the palate, cherry and raspberry with molasses coming on at the middle. The finish consists of medium tannins and moderate acid. This is a big, viscous, sweet fruit red that needs a food match like barbecue ribs. As with most Zinfandels, this would not be my favorite sipping wine by itself.

Nov 10th, 2017This petite sirah is fruit forward and big. The middle on is tart with a hint of molasses. The finish has chewy tannins and moderate plus acid. I think this would match well with about any BBQ dish, bacon dishes, and spicy beef burgers.

Aug 16th, 2017Nose is plum and dark cherry with some barnyard funk in the background. Big tart fruit to start with heavy mouthfeel indicative of the high alcohol level. Finish is bitter red fruit fading to acid. Hints of a port wine throughout, this is too syrupy. I find many Zins poorly balanced and hard to drink without a good food match, and this one is no exception.
