Same wine as the 1997, except this time at 14.5% ABV, the 1997 is so much fresher and youthful, not sure whether this bottle was mistakenly labeled and was actually the 1893 vintage that @Dave apparently laid in cases of when he was a young man!?!?!? 🤔🤔🤷👀😂

Nov 24th, 2025From an old Russian River vineyard planted in 1910, checking in at 12.5% ABV, this is a remarkable old-vine Mourvèdre that shows tree bark, redfruits, and amazing freshness and acidity given its 28 years old, great complexity and length, I can’t remember the production level, but guessing at most 100 or so cases, simply another great wine made by Rod Berglund at Swan!!
From an old Russian River vineyard planted in 1910, checking in at 12.5% ABV, this is a remarkable old-vine Mourvèdre that shows tree bark, redfruits, and amazing freshness and acidity given its 28 years old, great complexity and length, I can’t remember the production level, but guessing at most 100 or so cases, simply another great wine made by Rod Berglund at Swan!!
Nov 24th, 2025Thick and dark fruited, richer than the 1999 Swan Estate Syrah also open, this shows a little of that tree bark note I sometimes get in domestic Mourvèdre, long finish, very fine (from a RRV vineyard planted in 1910).

Sep 18th, 2024So, I found this in a box (with more bottles of the same wine, same vintage), and after (ironically??) receiving a very sweet email from Swan Winery today (finally??) acknowledging that the legendary Rod Berglund has finally agreed that he is no longer a spring chicken, I decided to open this — 12.5% ABV, Russian River Valley fruit, 27 years old going on 7 years to this old guy’s palate, marvelous fruit and acid, long finish, really just another data point on the sheer (50 year) greatness of Swan Winery!! Rod, I still have other 1990s (1995, 1996 and 1999) vintages of this RRV Mourvèdre, you are truly a winemaking legend, my friend!! Wishing you MANY more vintages!! Doug

Sep 26th, 2019Medium-dark purple, very youthful color, aromas of tan bark and redfruits, great balance, just a touch of heat in the very long finish, beautiful wine, can easily stand another 10+ years of cella ring!

Mar 2nd, 2017Still very dark color, complex aromas of tree bark and medium-ripe blackfruits, quite dense and rich, yet balanced w/excellent acidity, very long finish, I'd guess this will go another 10-20 years, easily. Outstanding!! 12.5% ABV, 85 year old vines. Kudos to Rod!!!
