Sainte-Épine Saint-Joseph Syrah 2016

A highlight from my Rhône trip last year, this is stunning. For my palate a perfect balance of concentration, structure, perfume, and life on the palate. Only drawback is how young it is, I cant wait to see how this evolves. So much ripe mixed black-berry fruits, sweet smoke, licorice, cured meat and wet black rocks. The florals and little layers are awesome. Seriously punches above its weight. Wanted to rate higher, but I know with time it will only climb from here. — 4 days ago

Plum, blackberry, umami and spice all prevent, so much depth and length but so young. Hold for a long while and come back. Will be delicious. — 12 hours ago

Mature redfruits and some tree bark aromas, lovely balance on the palate, medium-long finish, excellent Mourvèdre. — 24 days ago

Saint-Joseph Les Mourrays Syrah 2014

Deep ruby in color. Medium+ aromatic intensity, with developing aromas of graphite, river rock, blackberry, blueberry, wet leaves. Pronounced flavors of the same, high acidity, medium+ tannin, medium alcohol, medium body, long finish. Outstanding wine. Drink now or hold — 9 hours ago

St. Joseph Syrah 2017

Like an elegant Alain Crozes... or even Max Cornas. Gorgeous stuff right out of the bottle. Wonderful nose. Tightens a bit and then opened again the 3rd night. Obviously young to drink on release but now I know to buy a few more. — a month ago

Had 2012 for $85 at Kinship on 10/10/19 per recommendation of Chase. Little tannin but lovely long finish. Blackberry lavender unsmoked tobacco licorice yes granite with slate. — 8 days ago

E. Guigal

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2013

E Guigal produces fine Rhône wines. Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry fruit, cacao, leather and earth notes, vivid acidity on well structured frame. Fine tannins, lingering finish ending with fruit character. Should age well, a bargain compared to its Hermitage neighbors. — 19 days ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2015

So good I had to try another btl! Suave & polished showing dark red & black fruits, black olive, pepper, mineral, licorice & violets. Killer vintage that will reward another 5 yrs in the cellar. — 18 days ago

Love this St. Joseph. Such a different more “Côte-Rotie” style than the classic Mauves, Tournon, Epine styles. Super floral. Violets and more violets. Gorgeous precise and high toned aromas of mineral and lavender as well. Gorgeous red fruits and a lovely smokey, meaty and gamey element. Palate is structured and refined, and a bit tight out of the bottle but does blossom after an hour, but ideally I’d sit on this. Precise and linear, gamey, with huge granitic minerality and wonderfully pure. Give this 3-5 more years. But gorgeous wine if a bit young. — 22 days ago
