a beautiful expression of zinfandel a clearly tremendous wine that opens up nicely over an hour. Mike thank you for sharing such a quality wine! — 16 days ago
The way to my heart is wonderfully unusual aromas. Here are some - think smokey pineapple and buttered popcorn and maybe stewed apples in simple syrup. No doubt Rhône, this is full bodied and powerful, but not at all sloppy - oak and spice, lean and clean. — 3 days ago
Gorgeous and deep nose. Cassis, some wood, sappy red berries, smoke, mineral, granite. Needs an hour I’d say. Will track.
Palate is so so 16. Clean, fresh, refined and ripe. Loads of red berry fruit, so juicy, concentrated and pure. Lovely dusty tannins. Very elegant. Long and terrific freshness. Still young and this note is only from 10 minutes open but beautiful wine. Terrific structure as is airs out. — 10 days ago
You better drink this wine vintage if you have it - while opening it was very fresh and went down like water in the desert / tannins were so refined with exceptional length but at the end this amazing wine was was shutting down - I like it when the opposite is the case were the wine is brilliantly open reflecting subtle and evolving nuisances and creating interesting complexities - so an amazing burg at first but went bizarrely meek — 9 days ago
Great density on the palate that remains focused. Very seamless across the palate, with oak, acid, tannin, and alcohol all in balance. Classy but still has a wholesome nature to it. Beautiful aromas and flavors of cooked mulberry, blackberry jam, charred meat, pastille, bacon, cedar, bitter roots, graphite, woodsmoke. Drinking great right now — 4 days ago
Nose has cut cherry, crushed blackberry and (faint) banana.
Palate has black cherry, red currant, ripe blackberry and medium tannins.
This is certainly an oddity of the Nouveau style, some weight and complexity to the palate, considerable color extraction shows a very dark ruby color in the glass. Blindly tasting, I might not guess it is what it is... 2019 looks to be a decent vintage for Drouhin.
This may be the best Nouveau I can recall in many years of tasting, wow! — 10 days ago
