Sep 18th, 2016This wine is firing on each and every cylinder. Expressive nose, soft entry, long silky finish. Best Backus I've had since the '02.

Apr 18th, 2016Decanted 4 hours at cellar temp. The oak is resolving, fine grained integrated tannins, bay leaf, underbrush. Really solid with many years left but ready now with air.

Dec 25th, 20152006 vintage opened February 2017. Very tight out of the bottle. Recommend you decant it, rather than waiting for it to open up in an uncorked bottle. Notes of toffee, raspberry, and peonies in the bouquet. Velvety tannins all the way through from the front palate to the back palate. A pleasant mild acidity prevents the soft tannins from getting boring. Earthy and mineral on the front of the tongue. Dried black figs on the back. A lovely wine. Some might say I've opened this bottle too soon, but I think it's good to drink now, and it will probably be good to drink 10 or 15 years down the road. Sorry but I don't have the patience to wait any longer.
