As we live about 3 hours from Melbourne airport, we typically stay at the Park Royal Melbourne Airport Hotel if we have an early flight. It takes the stress out of worrying about the traffic and being on time for our flight.

Naturally, we also like to enjoy a few drinks at the start of a holiday too and therefore before our recent trip to Thailand we stopped at Dan Murphy’s on our way to the hotel to pick up a couple of bottles of champagne to enjoy in our room which Joseph Perrier Champagne Brutlooked back towards Melbourne city.

This bottle of Joseph Perrier Champagne Brut was about $55 at Dan’s. This was the more expensive of the two we bought, the other was the Champagne Devaux for around the $40 mark and to be honest, both Mr Spittoon and I enjoyed the latter moreso on this occasion. However, saying that it’s not like I’d turn down a glass of this one 😉

In the glass, this Joseph Perrier Champagne Brut is a yellow sand colour. It is rather floral and spicy on the nose with preserved savoury lemons standing out for me. In the mouth, it’s really easy drinking. Mr Spittoon put it well, saying that this is a crowd pleaser champagne, it’s not heavy or overly flavoursome with a smooth texture. It’s neither here or there, it simply slips down very easily.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royal. A lovely small champagne house the never fails to make me smile. You're not going to get the delights of veuve here but, it hits the spot at < £30

An absolute sleeper. Picked up a case for €15 and it's got more depth and complexity than just about all the big houses. Put down the Vueve Cliquot and find this wine.
