Sometimes I just crave Pineau d’Aunis. There’s something so delicious about this herbal, sappy, crystalline berry wine with a hint of green olive umami. With a slight chill it is divine.

Strangely for a lightweight red, my notes from over a year ago are still spot -on. A little dissolved CO2 made it a little bitter and angular on night 1, but on night 2 it was softer and more together. Great little hot summer night red.

This youthful wine needs a lot of air. Zingy and sparky on night 1. On night 2 it's composed itself a bit. Very light color. Nose has fresh-crushed tangy plums, citrus pith, mulch, and minerals. Still crunchy and fresh in the mouth, there's great minerality and acidity, along with tangy, clean fruit. Unique and a great red, slightly chilled, for summer cookouts.

Novelty varietal, hyped by mail order company and it was awful. Maybe it got hot in transit but the finish was hot & astringent. The nose wasn’t charming either, all twigs & berries, medicinal, some cherry, but dried orange rind and squirrely herbaceous aromas. Very light in color & mid-palate w/unbalanced acidity. I could see this grape being pleasant if made well.

Leather, cedar, and cherry, Loire funk if you think about it. Caraway on the nose. Surprisingly light with all those flavors. Definitely a 2015 (ripe).

Peppery nose, with some hint of pesticide. Light and spritzy. Nice summer red.
