Jean-Marc Pillot
Les Chaumes Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay
Burgundy night. Started off with a nice champagne followed by a Cali roussanne to calibrate the palates.
This was my bottle and I was slightly disappointed. I bought hoping it would be like the ‘13 but they were quite different. This was much more tropical with a sulfur like finish. Almost Chablis like. Shared no characteristics (like lemon cream) like I found with the ‘13 that was very chassagne-Montrachet.

July's monthly WTF group meet up. Blind tasting with a theme of French wines. Bravo to all those who joined...great wines!
When Hoyt poured this, he apologized after the first sip. Felt something was off. I tasted it and was blown away. Has my favorite Chardonnay trait...lemon cream. He stated he thinks the difference was the temperature and that he enjoyed it colder, but I enjoyed it just above cellar temp. Wow. Caramel, lemon cream, Andes mint, and a great texture.

Old friend comes to the table courtesy of the brilliant (and fun!) Erin Scala, savvily paired with lobster and tarragon bisque.

Oct 30th, 2015Young and promising, benchmark Chassagne. Slightly rough still, needs some two years to blend all the elements.
