Les Combettes Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay

Amazing!
No formal notes, dinner with our friends Joel & Lisa prior to a concert this evening.

Sings of oxidation but they only added to the fantastic complexity. The structure is still intact with nice tension. The fruit was still living amongst the spice, vanilla, flowers, and butterscotch. You know how I love my Puligny!!!

Deep straw color in the glass with a bouquet of crisp stone fruits and pebbles. Bright and fresh minerality on the palette - delightful on its own or with the soft blue cheese that was enjoyed with this wine!

2010 Vintage was singing last night with truffled goat cheese with truffle oil and smoked salmon on ACME sourdough baguette.

Didn't know Chard can open that much if you give it enough time!! Beautiful!!

Spice, butter, honeysuckle, stone fruit on the nose...sweet lemon bar, slate rock, touch of smoke? Don't spend too much time in Montrachet, I forget how much I do like these. Very good.

Lemons, flowers, freshly laundered linen, not a lot of minerals, more citrus and cream. Very cutting acidity still, the barest hint of the butterscotch I associate with age...definitely not premox'd. Very good, probably will live at least a couple decades at this pace...reds for the Caps game to come :)

So there's sort of a hush in the room when you are lucky enough to taste great Burgundy. Thank you Robin! I'll be honest it took me to a place, for that I'm thankful I always would like to be taken to a place where that vine was growing. This wine spoke of a place, soil vs fruit, I really enjoyed tasting this wine, but it didn't harden my nipples. So we continue with that love/hate relationship with Burgundy.
