Barnyard funk off the cork. Blackberries and leather after it blows off. Yum.

Date night with my wife, out in DC. This was delicious. Just the right combo of stony, gravelly and mulberry, fleshy. Dry and bracing on the palate. Better with as slightly log cooked rabbit ragu than with lamb merguez.

Funky and austere initially, this wine really blossomed with aromas of slightly unripe blackberry, earth, mushroom, pepper, and leather about 30 minutes after being opened. More of the same on the palate, with mouthwatering acidity, freshness, medium body, and good length. Similar to a Loire red, but this is more grippy, presumably from the Tannat in the blend. Interesting and good, this is best with food but it is also fine for sipping next to the woodstove on a chilly night.
