I’ve long been a fan of the Jarvis Finch Hollow Chardonnays (whether the regular or the unfiltered). They are expensive, but the type of wine when you open it ever so often, you are glad you have some. The unfiltered version is worth the extra $20.

I followed this over two days. Both days it sported such phenolic prowess that is enticing. If comparing, it’s in the same realm as an Aubert CIX based on phenolics and profile. Both days showed lemon cream, kiss of marzipan and honeyed sea salt aromatics but also a real bright tropical flair that I haven’t experienced before. The oak here provides some roundness on the palate, but the acidity is really complimentary. A friend, who is a white burg nut, said he’d blind this to burgundy all day long. This is more rich tropical fruit driven than previous ones that have been mostly caramel and baking spices. Delicious now, but I’d hold another 2-3yrs.

Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!

This was my contribution. Again, it was paired next to the filtered ‘11 vintage and the colors were incredibly different, with this being hay/straw colored with just a touch of cloudy appearance. If guessing blind, I would have called this Aubert SugarShack (which I love). Medley of lemon cream, marzipan and honeyed sea salt on the nose with a rich and powerful profile on the palate, yet it is nimble...perfectly balanced. Sweet oak, caramel dipped golden delicious apple at the finish.

When I first poured this I freaked out as I thought somehow my glasses were dirty - but quickly realized it’s unfiltered thus why it was so cloudy 🤣. This wine blew me away. The nose is highly aromatic with notes of tropical fruit and vanilla. Rich, plush and vibrant on the entry this is a bold Chardonnay with flavors of stewed apples, pineapple, buttery pie crust vanilla and florals, with a slight sweetness that emerges on the finish. @Martin G Rivard - this is so in my wheelhouse - and also the perfect celebratory pour following the Brooklyn half marathon (I am hopeful it will numb my sore legs). Can’t thank you enough!!!
