Popped and poured. Deep ruby color with moderate staining of the tears. Developing, with a fairly becoming nose with ripe black plums, dark bramble fruit, vanilla, some pipe tobacco, some chocolate and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium(+?) acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. It’s really primary now but it should drink better after 2025 and through 2034.

2013 vintage. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot. AVA Diamond Mountain District, Napa Valley. 24 months French oak (74% new). Consulting winemaker Celia Welch. Dark red with a hint of purple at the rim. Graphite, slightly jammy black fruits, spices and flowers in the nose. Layers of dark juicy fruit, fresh acidity and a firm, but rather soft tannic structure. Mineral finish. Surprisingly generous and supple for a Diamond Mountain cab. Very good indeed. Growing in the glass.

On a hunch, Hugh Davies replanted his Diamond Mountain estate vineyard with Cabernet in 1994. Since then, he's moved his sparkling grape parcels to cooler regions. A stroke of brilliance, really because Cab flourishes on Diamond Mountain and the 2012 J. Davies offers the most sumptuous aromas of plums, black currents, anise, mint and allspice. In the mouth, it's sensuous and hedonistic with round, ripe silky tannins, and ample blue fruit notes embellished by layers of mocha, minerals and subtle earthiness. Sample

2200 feet in the sky is what makes this so yummy! Composed of Cab and a splash of Malbec and Petit Verdot. Volcanic notes on the nose with cream cassis. Soft tannins on the sip while still getting that cream lush mouthfeel. Core raspberries and minerals balanced nice with the acidity-segway's to a succulent finish.

Round , elegant Cab . Maybe a little too much new oak for my personal taste

Sweet and ripe fruit...black cherry, raspberry jam, with fresh squeezed blackberries (which I always pick up with this wine, and I attribute that to the decent percentage of Malbec in it). Good bit of licorice too. Quite silky and medium bodied on the palate...not as hefty as expected and definitely not as tannic/chalky as expected. Kiss of mint with raspberry infused dark chocolate with hardly any savory/herbal notes towards the finish. This seems totally open for business.

Such a great drinker. Full bodied, rich in flavors, yet very elegant. Pour me another.
