Deep dark staining garnet in the glass. A nice imitation of a Right Bank Bordeaux from Sonoma. All about the fruit on the nose with ripe raspberries, blueberries, and a touch of cocoa powder. Upon opening, this presents as a standard Sonoma Cab to be honest. A problem that plagues a lot of California Merlot, but on day two she starts to find an identity. The oak I kept expecting to hit never showed up in full force. More fruit on the palate with juicy strawberries and blackberries. There’s a dollop of vanilla there, as well. All in all, this is only a pretty good Merlot, but at least it’s not pretending to be a Cab.
