Il Chiosso Gattinara DOCG 2012: Medium-plus bodied. Pronounced acidity. Well defined tannins with an inviting aromatic nose. Notes of red fruits, dried herbs, cigar, menthol, licorice & earth. Long dry finish. This 100% Nebbiolo was one of the other great wines consumed during last week’s fun work dinner (see yesterday’s post). Although not a favorite amongst my peers, for me it was a fresh tasting & well made wine. A great Nebbiolo expression! If you’re looking for a nice alternative to a Barolo or Barbaresco, consider this youthful QPR Nebbiolo from the Alto Piemonte (Northern Piemonte) region. Great day to all! Cheers🍷

Fruittella. Già color granato pieno. Viola appassita. Tannino poderoso, ma elegante.
Erbaceo, balsamico, radici. Liquirizia. Genziana. Caramellato. Petali leggermente appassiti. Viola appassita. Cimitero. Fiorista cimiteriale. Bei polialcoli. Molto secco, neutro. Acidità giusta.

Orange almost. This seems like the juice of vines trying to get the little it can out of rocky, thin soil. Not s as whole lot of fruit. Earthy, rocky, some strong tannins. Generally sounds rather unappealing, but there is an appealing quality to this.
