Horton Vineyards
The Tower Series Viognier
Bright straw gold in color. Lush nose of dried peaches and white flowers. Lush-er full-bodied palate yields the same layered with a bit of white pepper, tropical fruits, and a surprising “tang” (that I’m familiar with from this producer, but still catches me off guard… I suspect the presence of a second variety… Petit Manseng, perhaps?). Medium minus acidity once it settles down, though, but still enough to make this a nice wine with food. Roasted chicken or pork tenderloin spring to mind.

Jun 25th, 2018Straw gold in the glass. Underripe mango and white flowers on the nose and palate. Full mouthfeel with a tingle that compensates for the medium low acidity. Not top of the line for Virginia, but a solid representative.

Mar 24th, 2016Nose of fried banana and apricot, watery on the palate with a sharp finish...too old.

May 24th, 20202017 tasted in 2018: Pale yellow, subtle ripe stone fruit on the nose overlying a little earthy complexity, full bodied, fresh crisp style. Don’t look for a Condrieu in a Virginia Viognier. Instead look for a full bodied, fresh, crisp white table wine and this is a good example thereof.

Oct 31st, 2018Extremely disappointed. Way passed its prime! Turned years ago as a sweet & dark yellow wine is not what I'm sure the winemaker envisioned.
