Hope & Grace
Napa Valley Petit Verdot
This is the magic of Charles craft. He makes a PV that drink young and will age. Most PV’s young are brutal on the palate. Like sandpaper.
This is a beautiful. It it round, lush, full on the palate. Blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, dark cherries, light raspberry & strawberries w/ some purple fruit hues. Dark melted chocolate, mocha, caramel, moist clay, light baking spices, soft mid spices, fresh tobacco, older leather but hardly worn, fresh herbaceousiness, dark rich soil w/ leaves, sandalwood, tree bark with hints of sap, mixed mid to dark colored floral bouquet. Excellent round acidity with excellent structure, balance and polished wire to wire on the finish.

Another recommendation from @David T was Hope & Grace in Yountville. Thankfully, their tasting room was just a few blocks down from where we stay.
This is hands down the best petit Verdot I’ve come across and it’s not even close. Had no idea it could taste this smooth and silky. So many are harsh, tannic, and single dimension. This was well balanced in red, blue and black fruit, herbal, peppery, and a kirsch style finish. The Malbec we tasted was also great, but this was a different level.

Purplicious and happy as a clam except that clam is wrapped in a warm, lush and cozy blanket.

Nov 24th, 2015Made for steak. No grape juice taste you get from most Petit Verdots. This ones nice and complex with a chocolate covered cherry finish. Waiting 5 years to open my next bottle.

Jan 4th, 2020After oxygen hit this all bets were off. Whacked with lush black cherry, dark fruit, black pepper and mint. A velvet boom 💥

Dec 18th, 2019This is a big fat juicy steak wine. Silky smooth deep dark fruit and soft tannins. I’ll be sad when the bottle is empty, but I’m super happy right now.

Aug 7th, 2019Although the nose is a bit muted, showing only faint pencil lead and menthol, the palate is a big wash of blackberry, cocoa powder, and velvety tannins that last a good while...never thought a petite verdot could stand alone this well...

Mar 7th, 2019Solid 93, almost 94. This wine is 100% PV. A bit young, this one pours a dark, deep violet to the glass. There is no way light is getting through this monster. The nose is pepper and spice cake. The entry is fruitcake, pepper, allspice. The middle gains a youthful sweet tobacco leaf on top of a fruitcake red and black spice. The finish is tannic without a doubt, and I feel that another year or so would do this one quite well. A 93.45 stunner tonight, with potential to improve over the next 5 years. This one would top the 25th Anniversary William Harrison PV depending upon the style you prefer for PV. Gonna have to acquire a few for the collection! Nice pull @Shay A
