Weird but I get crayon on the nose, medium body, smooth even finish. Bottled this one back in the day at Vinpac had to get a bottle.

Second vintage I've tried, grown into its boots with the additional vintage. Black fruit meets fennel for a quick fumble; soft and pillowy entry before things get down and dirty with depth and spice.

If you enjoy full-bodied, dry, red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, then wines made from the Nero D’Avola grape variety might be for you. Nero D’Avola originates from Sicily in Italy and it’s associated with flavours such as black cherries & plums, liquorice and tobacco.

I received this bottle of Hither & Yon’s 2017 Nero D’Avola in my monthly June Good Pair Days sample pack (thank you!). I am a big fan of Hither & Yon, in fact I remember trying an earlier vintage of their Nero D’Avola on Perth’s Urban Wine Walk in 2017 and really loving it. So choosing this one for my monthly wine delivery was really a no-brainer.

The family behind Hither & Yon moved to South Australia from Scotland in the 1970s. Today the Leask brothers, Richard and Malcom are producing some mighty fine wines from the land their father purchased.

We enjoyed this mighty 14.5% abv red wine with a rich red meat pasta dish, and boy it went down a treat on a cold winters night. Here are our notes:

In the glass it’s an enticing crimson shade. On the nose it evokes thoughts of pomegranate, blackberry and it has an interesting smoky brick type of scent. In the mouth, I simply loved Mr Spittoon’s comment on it, he said ‘it tastes like a delicious jam donut’ with plenty of fruity sweetness and a hint of savouriness on the finish.

This wine was sent to me direct from Good Pair Days as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

This is sensational. Great nose. We will serve this slightly chilled at our wedding.
