Nuts & Bolts California Syrah

Drinking beautifully right now. Dark fruit & tobacco on the nose, leather, cola and spice on the pallet.

Monster Syrah. Baseball bat to the grill right out of the bottle, much more complex and enticing after decanting and airing for an hour.

This is what California tastes like.

Good. Needs to sit for a while.

After our wonderful wine trek through the Central Coast, I opened the '11 Herman Story Syrah 'Nuts & Bolts' with dinner tonight. A big spicy Syrah with a hot spicy bowl of chili. A huge blast of tarry licorice, clove and blackberry assaulted the nostrils. Brambly ripe fruit and spice box flavors saturated the tongue. Not sure if the heat on the finish was from the chili or the wine.

Side by side tasting of 2010-2011. The 2011 had a more nuanced profile, greater acidity and depth. Big and delicious much better than 2010.

Woody, floral, blackberry, vanilla spice, sharp.

Needs a little time to open up. But I love this stuff.
