Licorice and jammy sweet black fruits on the nose; jammy and intense fruit juice. Not very refined and not enough acidity to balance the jamminess.

Red fruits with touches of raspberry and oak on the nose. On the medium weight palate lovely mouthfilling red fruits - the product of old vines with the trademark silky Henschke medium weight Tannins. Always a wonderful wine. The 2006 has. Short term future up to 5 years more.

This grapey, ever-so-slightly syrupy juice delighted everyone with its grace and restrained power. Wow.

Notes of H2S initially even after decanting. I have had this problem with Mount Edelstone with another vintage - 2006 from memory. A medium bodied palate showing blackberry and raspberry. 2 hours later notes of H2S still there! Usually one of my favourite wines but not on this occasion. The palate less effected but not as silky as usual. More time? Expected more from the little brother of Hill of Grace. An atypical bottle.

Still youthful, with dark ripe fruit and a lovely nose.

Aromas of raspberry and hints of Thyme and Mint. Oak has fully blended into the fruit at 12 years and is totally balanced. The hallmark of this wine has always been its soft silky tannins; like its more famous elder sibling Hill of Grace for many more $. Medium bodied and in a great place right now in its development. Superb wine in a good vintage from a Vineyard planted in 1912 - dry grown ungrafted vines. Winery says can cellar to 2025. 9 weeks later picked the next one a little soon but I did. Notes as above. Cannot say more - just an excellent wine. Perfect with roast lamb.

Decanted a few hours before drinking, after standing upright for 24 hours. Deep, blood red colour, less viscous than some younger Shiraz but still weighty. Medium chalky tannins, decent acidity, and almost port-like intensity. Very classy SA Shiraz - a world away from the common fruit bomb.

powerful, yet sleek. fruit coming from vines as old as ones that were planted in 1860.
