Very nicely resolved for this early in a Trailside. Blackberries, black plum, dark sour cherries, cherries, dates, spice-box, dark dry earth with crushed rocks, tobacco, soft leather, dry & fresh dark florals, great acidity and finish.

Still very good after 17 years! My favorite wine of all time. Vintage 2003; enjoyed on 4/25/2020

My first Heitz and it's surprisingly elegant for a warm vintage. Drinking at its peak now, or perhaps even in its decline (did not hold out till the next day). On the nose, ripe black fruits, dried florals, pyrazine, anise, tobacco, wood, balsamic notes. The palate brings along some sour cherries, leather, and rocks. Tannins fully resolved and acidity remarkably present. Finish was alright (medium). Interesting to note that AC found the alcohol (14.5%) prominent, although I didn't think it was a problem. Balanced to me and I found the wine quite enjoyable. More importantly, I'm very convinced that I need to try more Heitz Cellar wines (sadly, the winery's been sold).

Very poor showing against the 2000 and the 2005 Saint-Pierre. Also a lesser wine than the much better priced 2004 Vina Ardanza.
