Red wine of my WSET Level 3 exam. This thing was monstrous with a long life ahead, already at 18 years old. Had a deep garnet colour, turning a bit brown but still dark and inky. The aromatics leapt from the glass, with leather, tobacco, black currants, Asian spice, and earth all present. The palate was still massive, with high acid and medium (+) tannins. Leathery, almost Tempranillo-like flavors (so much so, I thought it was possibly a gran reserva Rioja), but with more power and zing. Still some fruit left for 5-8 more years.. a pleasure to try.

Vintage 2015 | I put this in the cellar three years ago, when I was blown away by the wine. But the cellar years added nothing. It’s a beautiful made wine, but I doubt if it is meant to ripen and become even better. Will see, benefit of doubt…

Decanted for 6 hours. No need to put your nose in the glass.
Fantastic nose with loads of eucalyptus. Yummie wine.

Vintage 2015 / YUMMY with three exclamation marks. Rich. Cedar. Cassis. Great acidity. Hard to squeeze out. So quaffable. Big big surprise!!!

Medium Ruby. Nose of dusty plums with cloves, cinnamon and liquorice. On the palate full bodied with plummy notes, fine medium tannins. Still lively acid for 15 years of age, but not out of balance. On the contrary an excellent mature McLaren Vale Shiraz. From the book "1001 Wines to Drink Before You Die"!

Clearing out dads cellar with this classic. Drinking perfectly now and will probably hold on to it's juiciness a couple more years. #oldaustralia

Well passed its prime - lacking and zing and acidity. Very limp and lifeless. Heartily disappointing

Notes of plum, pepper and ground coffee. An old Aussie aristocrat of a wine, in the top echelons like Grange and Hill of Grace but flies under the radar compared to these two. Lovely savoury texture. A great wine by any measure in an understated style.

Deep crimson in colour with black tea edges. Hints of liquorice and spice. Full bodied more savoury mineral than fruit driven. Supple tannins and good length. One of Australia's Shiraz icons from a not so great vintage.
