Hall Wines
Kathryn Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Random Tuesday evening celebrating a friend is always a good idea. Great wine makes it an even better celebration.
Despite its young age this is drinking extremely well. Silky smooth tannins. Slightly fruit forward in that Hall way. Well made wine that could improve with age, but no need to wait.

2018 opened January 2022. Deep alizarin crimson color! — almost no transparency. INTENSE leather and tobacco on the nose. I was prepared to be blown away by this wine, but I wasn’t. Currants on the front of the palate, but the fruit fades quickly into bland tannic murk. (The tannins are soft and inoffensive, but not very interesting.) Lots of jangly high notes at back of the mouth, with nothing to balance them. Very drinkable right out of the bottle, but I can’t imagine this wine will develop with aging. Also in regards to the tannins, I do detect a little light smokiness on the mid palate. It’s not unpleasant, but I wonder if the grapes didn’t get a touch of smoke from the 2018 fires? There’s nothing offensive about this wine, but it’s soft and boring.
