Always good. It has what I look for in Syrah -- complexity, meatiness, dark fruit but not at the expense of the other elements.

May need to rate this again after 30 minutes... Dark plum, raspberry, savory, white pepper, rock dust & just a little floral (white)... Finish is long & tangy, like goji berry tea; it's still opening

95% Syrah, 5% Viognier grown in shale and schist soils, aged in barrels for 1 year 30% new oak. Halcón Vineyards does their best to match a Cóte-Rôtie. This 2012 has a nice vinosity of red cherry, plum, baking spices and tobacco. Flavor of cherry, blackberry, nice round tannins, gorgeous acids that make this wine cellar worthy. Very long finish.
