Halcon Vineyards
Alturas Yorkville Highlands Syrah
Always good. It has what I look for in Syrah -- complexity, meatiness, dark fruit but not at the expense of the other elements.

May 19th, 201695% Syrah, 5% Viognier grown in shale and schist soils, aged in barrels for 1 year 30% new oak. Halcón Vineyards does their best to match a Cóte-Rôtie. This 2012 has a nice vinosity of red cherry, plum, baking spices and tobacco. Flavor of cherry, blackberry, nice round tannins, gorgeous acids that make this wine cellar worthy. Very long finish.

Aug 14th, 2015Decanted for 2 hours and the fruit just BARELY started to show by the last glass. Deep red-violet color. Spicy and complex. Craves red meat.
