Praesulis Südtirol Gewürztraminer
14.5% abv Gewürz?? Yeah, that’s not balanced. Which is too bad - the aromatics are lovely, but the palate picks up both bitterness from the high alc, as well as an oily texture (common with over-ripe Viognier as well) which is off-putting. Basically, harvest this a week+ earlier and it would have been great. Will try other vintages and other wines from this producer though.

Jan 25th, 2018Expressive aromatics of mangoes, ripe peaches & pineapple with the classical rose petals & a pinch of herbs. On the palate this is rich, yet dry & juicy w/o the oily flabbiness that often plagues Traminers. Impeccably balanced and carried the hefty 15% alc (!! but warm vintage) very well. Lacks the minerality of the best Traminers from Südtirol though.
Wouldn’t pair this with food but a glass or two is v. nice for contemplating.
