Star bright straw gold. Abundant funky nose of burning citrus and funghi. Medium palate is much cleaner than the nose yielding toasted lemon, white guava, and white pepper with a bit of birch on the finish. Medium plus acidity. Medium finish. A fine example of California Fumé style SB. Okay as a sipper, but built for a meal. Swordfish and scallops come racing to mind, but any white fleshed fish or shellfish should pair wonderfully. Or just upscale your fried chicken. It’s good for that, too. Drink now through 2024.

I am starting the week off with the 2017 Grgich Hills Estate Fumé Blanc Dry Sauvignon Blanc.
On the nose I am getting lime, pink grapefruit, nectarine, honeydew melon and minerality.
On the palate there is lime, grapefruit, white peach, wet river rocks and minerality.
This wine is medium bodied with a fresh clean mouthfeel, medium + acidity and a long bright citrus finish. Everyone have a wonderful week ahead and please be healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂

A snappy dresser, this Fumé Blanc, it wears colorful cravats and drops dry jokes like no tomorrow all while drinking a sophisticated well made daiquiri. Then it softens, and makes it clear to you that it is there for you. The sharp persona shed. For a moment. All of which to say is this wine is pungeant and herbal yet lemonyly (it’s a word now) with a hint of tropical flowers up front then there is a butter-you-up underbelly then it punches up with acid and alcohol. I want to be this wine’s friend but it will be one that keeps me on my toes.
