Not great notes, a testament to the company with whom this wine was enjoyed!

Nose: absolutely gorgeous, leaping from the glass with ripe cherry, blackberry, fig jam, cinnamon, baked nuts, lavender and vanilla bean

Palate: in a perfect spot, with ripe but incredibly fresh black & red fruits, kirsch, Morello cherry and balsamic glaze

In an absolute sweet-spot for younger drinking, the overall impression is of a Port beginning to acquire the savoury qualities of age but with incredible freshness and perfume. A delightful drink and one I’ll enjoy checking in with in 5-10 years’ time.

Weekly Wednesday Wine Committee lunch...always such a treat to attend. This week, Dan hosted. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All blind as usual.

I guessed late 80s/early 90s port. A bit surprised this was an ‘85...so incredibly young. Color was still quite dark. Nose and palate were heavy on cinnamon-sugar cashew notes, cocoa and nutmeg.

The highest rated wine on the table other than the 1948 but no votes for first or second!
