Monprivato di Castiglione Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo

Tasting group 6th, my 6th place. Blind. Koolaid, persistent spritz. Not clean. Astringent tannins. Tart cherries

Light brickish red in the glass. An exceptional expression of this old world style.

Powerful, damp forest floor and flowering rosemary, and even sage. Of the earth. From magnum. Red cherry and pomegranate, salty and even savory. Needs time. Lovely.

Reliably good and punchy. It has a bit of verve in its opening and and decent length. This is a reliable Barolo always.

Drinking at it’s prime... absolutely delicious!

In a difficult phase right now ? For sure not in balance and slightly disappointing.

G Mascarello Barolo Monprivato 2011. Drunk over two nights without decanting. Light garnet red with watery rim. Very closed the first day with notes of unripe cherry, spices and finishing with tobacco leaf. In the mouth it was almost weightless with very lean structure, medium acidity and tannins. The second night the wine gained in weight, structure and depth. It showed similar notes with the addition of dried raspberries, rose petals, liqorice and dusty minerals. The tannins were more gripping but still supported by good acidity. While the second night I enjoyed it I am not sure this is worth the price tag or if I should wait and taste it again later on to have a better experience.
