Napa Valley Petite Sirah
This checks a lot of boxes when it comes to a stellar Tuesday night bottle... under $30... high quality producer... high alcohol... Napa Valley... and straightforward in its approach, but enough complexity to satisfy the curious. It’s sourced from two Napa vineyards, one with century old vines in Calistoga and another on the backside of Howell Mountain in the hills of Pope Valley. Ripe blueberry with a bramble edge that hints at jam without being over the top. While the fruit takes center stage, there are layers of coffee, vanilla, tea, and cedar, with a chewy grip on the palate.

Oct 7th, 2016Wow! Stellar wine for the price. Full, inky and bold upfront, the wine never reaches the point of over-saturation of either fruit, oak or tannin. Just a lot of character with a lot of harmony. Buy, buy, buy this wine.

Sep 25th, 2017More balanced than I was expecting. Blueberry, coffee, leather and cedar on the palate. Enough acidity to round it out. Long, tannic finish with a bit of a vegetal note to it.

Aug 27th, 2017Girard 2013 Petite Sirah at 14.5% is kicking it!!!! I could drink this entire bottle by myself. The color is not opaque but darker than most sirahs. It is a petite grape so this is expected. The bouquet is lavender and lilac. The initial palate is blueberry, blackberry, and dark cherry. Then comes the chocolate with a buttery smooth finish leaving your tongue very dry. What a great wine! Fantastic job guys. Cheers to Girard vineyards.
