Opened and decanted for a couple of hours prior to service after which, it was enjoyed over a few hours. No formal notes. This bottle of 2000 Giovanni Rosso Barolo “Cerretta” currently pours a deep garnet color with a mostly transparent core. There is some sediment present but we were able to decant most of it off. This is a vinous wine displaying dried red fruits, leather, tar, mushrooms and spices. The structure is still firm but the tannins are fairly integrated at this point. The attack is perceptively sweet and the finish is long and satisfying; perhaps a touch hot. This is drinking well right now and well stored examples should hold through 2030.

Floral, smokey, rubbery, really nice aromas. Woody a f on the palate. Juicy. But messy. Ok.

Opened about 30min before serving; consumed over a three hour period. A wine that seems to be mostly about aromatics at this point. Initially, the nose was bing cherry, alpine herbs, tar, wet river rocks…but that shifted after about an hour when fresh raspberries and chocolate covered citrus candies entered the mix. And then, after about 90 minutes of air, then…came the roses accompanied by watermelon Jolly Rancher™️. Really quite captivating!

On the palate, things were a bit more subdued: tart dark cherries, blackberries, tar and minerals were the most obvious…but I have found many 2010 Barolo’s remain pretty reticent, locked behind a giant wall of tannins and really, this is no exception. Lovely acidity. This finish is quite long and, notably, quite saline. While this is enjoyable now, I believe the best is yet to come. Drink now, with some patience, through 2035+?

Still young! As opened got all kinds of delicate spices, black fruits, forest floor, slight caramel notes, full on the palate but lots of tannins still and very long persistent finish! Can't wait to taste on day 2!

I originally opened a 2010 Brezza but that was so horribly corked I reached for this in hopes to make up for it...and boy did it ever. This came singing right out of the gate. Cherries, black berries, tar, roses, earth...just about everything a Barolo lover could want. Tannins are still firm but they have softened enough to not be a distraction. This is at a very lovely place right now. Drink now or through 2025+.

Popped and poured; consumed over three hours. Tremendous Cerretta. Looks like ox blood in the glass...incredible visual with zero signs of age. Intoxicating aromas of kirsch, pie crust, tar, fresh roses, and tiramisu. On the palate it was all kirsch and sous bois supported by a mountain of tannins still, 12 years in. Beautiful acidity and the finish sits with you for well over half a minute. It was still going strong by the time we reached the bottom of the bottle. This wine will last for decades to come and I have expectations for it to start showing its best closer to 2025. Drink with patience or hold.

Delicate considering the age of these, don't remember these being so approachable this young, it's quite enjoyable though.
