Gibbs
Carpenter Vineyard Cabernet Franc
Second set of samples from Gibbs, and we were super excited to try these! Tasted both of these blind to make it interesting. Deep garnet red with a dark core. Nose was coated in caramel, baking spices and undertones of soft dark fruits. Palate started off muted, with some strong tannins (8.5/10). Finally opened up with some soft dark fruits in the mid palate. Definitely has more structure than the merlot and well rounded. Very dry finish and moderate plus body. Overall this is an amazing QPR/value wine, we definitely need to get a few of these to put away! Drink till 2028.

May 10th, 2016New 2016 vintage. Bottled 2 months ago and it’s already showing great potential. Smooth tannins like a smooth drive through the country side alongside your girl. Typical Cab Franc backbone like Dwayne Johnson in an action movie with smooth curves and fruit like Jennifer Lawrence in a Romantic Comedy. Bordeaux/old world style with a sweet combination of world-wide drinkability and approachability. Wow

Mar 16th, 2018Dark dark wine. Soft spices, vanilla, and herbs on the nose. This really needed some time for the palate to come alive but when it did she showed what she's working with. Black pepper, blackberries, mushrooms, and just the hint of green olives team up to knock this out of the park. Really nice mouthfeel with dry, dry tannins. You won't even notice the almost inexplicable 15.7 until the end. Very impressive from St. Helena.
