I have to say, for sub $20 this stuff is pretty darn good. One of my favorite traits in a good Riesling is the nose. Freshly zest lime, crushed slate, under ripe white pear, tennis ball, and honeysuckle. Trocken (dry) in style - high, but appropriate acidity, exhibiting bright keylime and green pear fruits, with a dusting of mineral and ginger to the finish. This is a nice zesty and refreshing white to have on a Sunday to pass the time before the superbowl. Gold metal in Portugal!...wait, huh?

Gerd Anselmann – Riesling Trocken 2023
Pfalz – Germany 🇩🇪

Overview
100% Riesling from Pfalz, one of Germany’s warmest and driest regions, known for producing ripe yet crisp expressions. “Trocken” indicates a dry style.

Aromas & Flavors
Fresh and lively with aromas of citrus zest, green apple, and a touch of peach. On the palate, the wine shows its dry edge with sharp lemon, crunchy green pear, and subtle minerality. The fruit is vibrant but restrained, with a backbone of acidity keeping everything bright and linear.

Mouthfeel
Crisp, dry, and refreshing. Medium-bodied with a clean and snappy finish that emphasizes acidity over sweetness.

Food Pairing
Perfect with sushi, ceviche, grilled shrimp, or light salads. Also great with vegetarian dishes and mild goat cheeses.

Verdict
A straightforward, clean, and classic Pfalz Riesling Trocken—ideal for those who love a zesty, dry style with no frills but plenty of freshness. Cheers!

Did you know?
The Pfalz region sits along the Haardt mountains, a continuation of France’s Vosges, giving Riesling here extra ripeness compared to the Mosel or Rheingau. This often results in more fruit-forward yet still dry wines.

eye: rates at the end of the bottle with evidence of crystallized residual sugar, very pale yellow hue that's transparent

nose: passionfruit and zesty citrus dominate the nose with fresh petrochemical-derived products in the backdrop but readily apparent

palate: rather sweet with an apparent honey and enough acidity to somewhat balance. fruit is largely white peach

Less aromatic than some rieslings. More fruit than mineral on the nose, perhaps slight tropical fruit notes. Very dry, nicely acidic and fresh, clean finish. Would be great with a meal, not asus much a sipping wine.

Balanced florals and surprisingly nice heavier body for a 13% Riesling. Lemon peel and graphite fill the glass with hints of under ripe apricot

Nose has a soapy quality. But on the palate this is crisp, with some fruit and a nice backbone of slate. Good for the modest price. Keep on trocken!
