La Côte Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc
Sancerre, Central Vineyards, Loire Valley, France

Rich, not electric. Reminds me of 2020 Chablis.

Gorgeous showing with plenty of life left, fresh and open for business on day 4. As always, crystal clear yet juicy and buoyant fruit, a strong damp mineral core, framed by inviting aromatics of fines herb, hay, and citrus blossom. Citrus, melon, yellow plum. Outstanding.

Sep 1st, 2019Ripe. With time minerals and texture arrive. Then the fruit vines back. Really excellent, but wait at least 5 years.

This showed robust minerality and smoke on the nose, but with a rich lemon-lime fruit profile that balanced it out perfectly and backed by pretty floral tones. On the palate, it displayed silky textures with lifted acidity, showing pear, green apple, lemon rind, and minerals in a very appealing blend of ripe fruit and bitter twang. It finished mouthwatering and juicy, like biting into a lemon with a ripe pear chaser with crushed savory herbs. This is a stunning bottle of Sancerre.

The 2013 La Côte is a brilliant young bottle of Sancerre. Monsieur Boulay only began producing a single vineyard bottling from La Grande Côte in the 2010 vintage, as these are some of his younger vines, and until the celebrated their twentieth birthday in 2010, he felt that they were simply still too young to be bottled on their own. The 2013 La Côte is brilliant, wafting from the glass in a stunning mélange of grapefruit, lemon, kaleidoscopic minerality, petrol, complex botanicals, a touch of smokiness and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and again simply shows off stunning mid-palate depth for the vintage, with brisk acids, laser-like focus and great grip on the pure and dancingly long finish. Great, great wine. 2016-2035+. - Jon Gilman
