Georges Lignier et Fils
Clos des Ormes Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Pinot Noir
Morey St. Denis, Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France

Georges Lignier’s holdings in this jewel of a 1er Cru account for nearly half of the entire vineyard.
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2021 “Clos des Ormes” pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of fresh forest berries: strawberry, raspberry, freshly cut red flowers, some finely ground black pepper, dried green herbs and a kiss of fine, warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. What a lovely, rustic expression of Burgundy! This is the most soulful Georges Lignier I’ve had so far. The 2021 vintage may have played a part (I’m a fan of these cooler, harder vintages). Whatever, this is awesome and killer with rabbit sausage and lentils. Drink now (and take your time with it) or enjoy through 2046.

Ruby red, candied raspberry, strawberry, rose petal, mineral, dusty, cinnamon, clove on the nose. Licorice, cranberry, pomegranate, red cherry, slightly vanilla, with fresh ginger and white mushrooms earthiness on the palate. refreshing, bright with med plus acidity, med tannin. A beautiful wine with many layers in every sip.

2010. Georges Lignier owns half of Clos des Ormes, a 4 hectare vineyard that sits right under Clos de la Roche. Fun to drink now, but has serious structure to age.
