Gemello
Cabernet Sauvignon
A shame. Band aid punches through too much. A shame because this is one of the greatest CA wines.

1 person found it helpfulJan 23rd, 2019It’s been called “the greatest wine you’ve never heard of” or a true “unicorn” wine but is inarguably an under the radar California legend. In the early 2000’s it ran away with the title at a CA recreation of the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Google the wine and learn a little about Mario Gemello and this vintage in particular. Fun stuff. This was over the hill IMO but gets a 90 for coolness factor alone. From the master of the Durand @Matthew Beckman

Aug 13th, 2016Purchased at an estate sale for eight dollars last month. Had been well kept. Served last night to 8 wino friends. Wonderful! Showing its age but still a great bottle! The description on the back of the bottle about all the events affecting the vineyard that season (mostly bad) was informative.

Jan 17th, 20231st wine in the aged Cab flight and what a treat. Santa Clara history and a true Unicorn courtesy of @Matthew Beckman. Gorgeous nose. Our expectations may have been just a bit too high based on its reputation, but I thought it was lovely and a brilliant start to the red flight. As the label says “GW means Good Wine.”

Dec 19th, 2018This is actually the Gaspar Smith rather than the Scott Smith. Although this wasn’t the red label, it was a treat to try this rare Cabernet from a legendary, extinct Santa Clara winery. Consensus was some VA on opening, but this really fleshed out nicely over several hours. Glad there were some great Bordeaux’s in the House to help this one stay in the shadows long enough to let it evolve.
