G.D. Vajra
Langhe Freisa
Dense, youthful purple. This has plenty of life left and may have been opened too early. Aromas with air show a black cherry, bitter almond and cherry pit. The palate is equally tannic as nebbiolo but offers a fleshier texture, perhaps due to the anthocyanin content. Having been lucky enough to meet a scion of the winemaking family this week I understand that they expect that this wine will be able to age for at least a decade.

May 10th, 2023Light on its feet with perfumed dried flowers wafting out of the glass - fresh tart rhubarb and red berry compote. Stunning wine. Exotic spice keeps you coming back for more. Structured enough for just about anything you could put on the table.

Jun 9th, 2021Smoky-ripe black cherry and violets with acid and tannin galore. Serve chilled with charcuterie and cheese, this could be a Piemontese Cru Beaujolais stand-in. The Vajra version is dry and weighs in at 14% ABV. Freisa has a parent-offspring relationship with Nebbiolo... so for some of us, things couldn’t get much better. Shocked (!!!) that this is a 2015 wine; hard to imagine how hard you’d get slapped with a more recent vintage. Eataly.

Mar 17th, 2021Very particular wine, strong, dark fruit, hyper long finish, hard to compare with anything known.
Not for everyone, but really enjoyable

High acid balanced by richer, dark fruit.
