Checks all the boxes for great champagne for me. Delicious, brisk, complex, textural and alluring on all fronts. Loads of character. Ripe asian pear, red apple skin, lime zest, sweet citrus peel, white strawberry and peach, loads of orchard blossom, starchy, and a salty/chalky thread throughout. There’s a vinous form to this but the racy acid drives it all across the palate, great tension/ripeness balance there. 80 PN 20 CH; 75% 2015 balance ‘14 & ‘13; 10/2018 disgorgement

Though not the same as it was pre-COVID -19, a handful of us were able to gather (while keeping our distance) to celebrate being back together and opened some fun wines to share. Wine is always better with good company.

One of two champagnes for the evening (the other being a Cédric Bouchard Val Villane, which I posted about a few weeks ago). A producer I’m semi familiar with. Rich and dense aromatics in that oxidative style, but it’s more fruit driven than I expected. Some yeast, good bit of chalk and limestone. Bruised pear, caramel dipped golden delicious apple and apple strudel too. Acidity was mellow and it toed the line of champagne and still wine. A champagne I’d like to try again. Thanks

Super precise but not over the head acidic. Just enough roundness to leave you slightly satisfied, but yearning for more. Easy drinking.

Dégorgé: Juin/16, Dosage: 3g/l, Decanted/Burgundy glass, took about 1.5hrs to shine, was tried beside the Brochet, both such outstanding examples of true/pure RM's, the beautiful yogurt intensity that shone through with some air was outstanding.

Écueil, Villers-aux-Nœuds, Pinot Noir 80%, Chardonnay 20%, Dosage 5g/l, Dégorgement Octobre 2016. It's been a while waiting to try this Champagne, the wait was well worth it.
