Ambitious but out of balance. Starts with beeswax and honeycomb, ripe pear with a hint of sugar, very prominent bitterness and too much alcohol on the finish. A bit too much of everything

Jan 8th, 2023I have been on a tear for Chidaine's wines since I was browbeaten into ordering the 2013 Clos de Breuil by the bartender at The European in Melbourne and the seductive mysteries of Montlouis were laid out before me. Listen, this Les Choiselles is really lovely, especially when you pick up a case of the 2009 at auction for a song. Beguiling aromas of ripe apple and lime, totally ready to drink, with laser focused acidity to keep this wine on its toes. How many more decades will this drink so beautifully? Satisfying to know that there are 11 more bottles in the cellar to evaluate over the next 3 decades or so. Will report back then.
