So surprised by this! Found this n the cellar looking to cull the weaker ones from the herd. Not this though! At its moment now. Certainly mature with ripe melon flavors and even some golden hay. It’s beautifully full on the palate with a firm but graceful frame of acidity that carries through the finish. Bravo! — 4 years ago

I sent off all but a few bottles of the 1990 Bollinger Grand Année to auction because they were just too far along for my taste before I broke into the case. With that in mind, I dug through to the case of 1996 to see where we stood on the aging curve. Happily for me, this seems to be at its moment for my palate. Yes, bread dough and marmalade, advanced, but with sufficient composure to keep the wine rich, mouth filling and satisfying. Keeping these for drinking and maybe christening the occasional yacht. — 8 years ago

I have been on a tear for Chidaine's wines since I was browbeaten into ordering the 2013 Clos de Breuil by the bartender at The European in Melbourne and the seductive mysteries of Montlouis were laid out before me. Listen, this Les Choiselles is really lovely, especially when you pick up a case of the 2009 at auction for a song. Beguiling aromas of ripe apple and lime, totally ready to drink, with laser focused acidity to keep this wine on its toes. How many more decades will this drink so beautifully? Satisfying to know that there are 11 more bottles in the cellar to evaluate over the next 3 decades or so. Will report back then. — 9 years ago

Wow! What a disappointment! Alcoholic, sloppy with nothing to balance out the cloying fruit. I anticipated this wine after some laudatory comments by a “critic”. Earlier vintages were head and shoulders above this. Clearance shelf at the supermarket as far as I’m concerned. — 3 years ago

Wow! Best vintage I have had of this in several years. Six bottles is not enough. Great strawberry nose with the garrigue we associate with Provence. I don’t think there’s a better Rosé out there, but I keep searching! — 6 years ago

My last bottle of this, saved to share with my friend Merrick Dowson, who was the importer of Laurent's wines at this time. I remember loving this on release and though the adolescent power of the wine has morphed into more a dowager aunt, it's still quite wonderful. Traces of the early beefiness are still here, but now enhanced by faded rose and five spices. The wine can go on for several more years, but no need to wait if you are seeking the pleasure of a real burgundy at it's mature and elegant moment — 8 years ago

Other than vintage port, this is the only Portuguese wine in the cellar. First encountered in a small wine shop in Vancouver BC about 5 or 6 years ago. I’m so happy to enjoy it again. Wonderfully mature, with a bouquet of forest floor, saddle leather, coffee... you get it. The wine is just where I want it to be. Low alcohol 12.5 percent or so. It’s just what happens when the winemaker builds a well defined structure that allows for graceful aging of an adolescent wine into something wizened, full of character. — 4 years ago

Dried Rose Petals, elegant and appealing. Light color of sunset ambers and pinks. Low alcohol. What I hoped it would be. A wine to be respected in its graceful decline... I could drink Australian more often if they were all this gracious. — 8 years ago

This has always been superior in magnum and this one only reinforced the impression. Still powerful, extracted and opulent. Intoxicating qualities aromatically; leafy forest floor, truffles, but also still, ripe black fruits and some gamey, smokehouse umami. A dreamy finish. I'll wait 10 more years before I open another... — 8 years ago
