Rather disappointing. Tasted better years of this same wine.

Vintage 2001 - older wine but still alive and kicking, smells like if you walk on a farm, spicy, very high acidity, too much cedar/wood in smell

Dad pulled this 2004 Fontanafredda Papagena from Barbera d’Alba out of the cellar recently for us to try. It’s made from the Barbera grape 🍇 which is a popular variety in the Piedmont region in northern Italy 🇮🇹. It was a very interesting 13 year old wine to taste!

On the eye it looked like the red of Black Doris plums. Notes of cigars, plums, stewed cherries and nectarine/mandarin came through on the nose, alongside a bit of farminess. In the mouth it had juicy plum acidity with hints of tobacco and leather. Very interesting wine which had me craving pasta 🍝 🍷.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #tcweekdaywine

Perfectly aging this Barbera d’Alba. Paired it with pasta with confited duck. Good combination as the acids in the wine stood up against the fat in the dish.

Dark red purple. Overwhelming nose with blackfruit but also some forrest and wood. Ridiculous PQR as we only payd 15 euro’s for it. No need to keep it any longer. Just enjoy!

2011 vintage on 16.1.19
Perhaps in a strange phase this wine. As much as we enjoyed it two years ago currently it is a bit harsh. The sweet ripe red fruit is hiding or gone...
The nose is nice though. Some cinnamon, sandelwood and other spices.
In the mouth however the acids dominate. Lets see how it goes with the food and tomorrow. For now 85.

Great Barbera D’Alba. Ruby colour and with blackberry and cherry notes. Fresh and well balanced in mouth. Easy to drink and pairs well with not that strong food.
