Cork crumbled upon opening. Consumed over several hours. This is clearly browning and showing its age but certainly not dead...though very advanced. On the nose it’s dominated by secondary characteristics of truffles, stewed strawberries (like homemade preserves), forest floor and cured meats. On the palate it’s figs and charred meat. The finish is short. Based on this bottle, these are barely holding together. I wouldn’t be at all surprised that other bottles are aging a little more gracefully but I wouldn’t trust to hope. If you have any of these laying around, drink them while they still have some redeeming qualities as they are surely in the twilight of their life.

Mar 14th, 2018A bit austere at first, but with just a bit of air, soft red fruit came forward and the picture came together nicely. Very dark for a Barolo, more of a modern style, but enjoyable. Time to drink up, I suspect.
