2007 Summum Chardonnay out of magnum, another Oregon wine that put me on the path to where I am today. Never forget opening this for a woman in Aspen and being so stoked that she hated it so we could drink it all night long. Tasted side by side with the 2015 out of Magnum, tale of two polar opposite vintages. Not a total parallel because the vineyard selection and plantings were different for the bottlings. The 07 is incredible, still young, still has life in front of it, not showing any signs of oxidation. This is benchmark Chardonnay for anywhere in the world, not just Oregon or the new world, as good as it gets. If you’re in the valley for a few days, Evening Land will dig these out of storage for you, they aren’t cheap but worth every penny if you Love Chardonnay.

Lovely florality, spice and faint herbal notes blithely dance around richer tones of white peach and dried apricot. Evening Land's elegant 2007 Summum Seven Springs Chardonnay is lightly framed in faint oak with satiny, creamy layers at the core. Everything about this wine is fined-boned, with twinkling inner luminescence and stunning grace. The finish is quite minerally, there is perhaps even a touch of iron ore—an unexpected flourish at the close. One of the top Oregon Chards I tasted at the Oregon Chardonnay Celebration. Sample

With Chardonnay like this why is Oregon wasting its time with Pinot Gris?

2007 Evening Land Vineyards Summum Chardonnay - heavy reduction in the nose, with mushrooms, lilies, and lemon pith accenting this characteristic style of Evening Land. Reduction carries over to the initial contact with the tongue, with elements of honey, yellow peach, and ripe pear. Broadens into a highly saline midpalate with hints of white pepper and green apple. Finishes in green tree fruit and acid. Lovely and could cellar for a couple more years.
