Etienne Pochon
Crozes-Hermitage Syrah

Meaty, gamey, mineral and very floral. Killer nose. Palate less killer. A bit dirty.

Supple red fruit / some dank vegetal notes / palate expresses briny olive, game, mushroom, dried herb / black pepper / rich but angular, with med to med+ frame

Lighter-bodied vs. New World Syrah. After opening, started to show pepper, terroir, herbs. Lovely with the Osso Bucco.

Whelans Wines, €50, medium bohied Crozes Hermitage which wouldn't necessarily be my choice, but this magnum, aerated surprised me with blackcurrants, good structure.

Rustic. Good typicity. Medium body. Fairly extracted but not unbalanced. Solid bistro wine with braised lamb. Feels like I’m in southern France.
